Frequency Converters in Jordan

Jordan runs at 50 Hz. Machinery built for the American or Gulf market often expects 60 Hz, and aircraft ground power needs 400 Hz. We supply static frequency converters that give that equipment the frequency and voltage it was built for, with the same clean output as an online UPS.

Why not run it on 50 Hz?

A 60 Hz motor on a 50 Hz supply runs about 17% slower and draws more magnetising current, so it runs hot. Pumps and compressors lose output, and some control electronics refuse to start at all.

A static converter works like an online UPS. It rectifies the incoming 50 Hz supply and uses an inverter to build a new, clean output at the frequency you need, so the machine runs as its maker designed it. A transformer cannot do this, because it only changes voltage.

Converters go into factories running imported 60 Hz production lines, aircraft ground power and avionics test benches, marine and shore supply, defence and radar equipment, and QA labs that need a controlled frequency. We size each one for the continuous load and the motor starting current, then install and commission it on site.

Questions we get asked

What size converter do I need?

Send the nameplate of the equipment: voltage, frequency, kW or kVA and the largest motor. Motors need headroom for their starting current, so the converter is usually larger than the running load.

Is a converter the same as a VFD?

A drive controls the speed of one motor. A frequency converter supplies a whole machine or panel, including its controls, with a fixed 60 Hz or 400 Hz supply.

Can the converter also ride through outages?

Some models can take a battery, so the converted supply also carries through a power cut. We confirm this per model.
