OPzS Batteries in Jordan

OPzS cells are the heavy-duty lead-acid choice for telecom exchanges, power stations, water plants and 110 V DC systems: 2 V tubular-plate cells with up to 20 years of design life. We supply OPzS banks, build the racks, install and commission them, and maintain them afterwards.

What OPzS means

OPzS is the German DIN 40736 designation for stationary cells with tubular positive plates and liquid electrolyte. The tubular plate holds its active material far longer than the flat plates in a VRLA block, and that is where the long life comes from. The cells are vented, so you can see the electrolyte level and top it up.

Every cell is 2 V, so you build exactly the voltage you need: 53 to 55 cells for a 110 V DC bus, or 24 cells for 48 V telecom. Typical cells run from around 200 Ah to over 3,000 Ah.

OPzS · flooded

Longest life, needs a proper room

The lowest cost per year of life for large DC systems. You need a ventilated battery room, spill protection and topping up with distilled water every two to three years.

OPzV · gel

Sealed, no topping up

The same tubular plate with a gel electrolyte. No water to add and less ventilation, at a higher price and a somewhat shorter life.

A complete battery room

We calculate the cell size from the duty cycle, the end-of-discharge voltage, the room temperature and an ageing factor. Then we design steel racks for the cell weight and the floor loading, and work out the hydrogen ventilation, because flooded cells give off gas while charging.

On site we fill the cells, give them their first charge and run a capacity test at handover. The charger is set for float, boost and equalising charge on lead-acid cells.

For existing banks we take cell voltage and specific gravity readings, top up, torque the connections and run discharge tests, then give you a written report with a replacement forecast. Cells come from EnerSys (PowerSafe OPzS, 216 to 3,360 Ah) and other European and Asian makers, chosen for the project and the delivery time.

Questions we get asked

Where are OPzS batteries used?

Telecom exchanges, power stations, substations, water and wastewater plants, railway signalling, and large UPS or solar systems where long life matters more than floor space.

How often do OPzS cells need water?

Good cells on float need topping up every two to three years, more often in a hot room or with frequent cycling.

OPzS or NiCd?

OPzS costs less for a large, temperature-controlled battery room. NiCd lasts longer in heat and handles deep discharges better. We price both for your site.

Can you maintain an existing OPzS bank?

Yes. We read cell voltages and specific gravity, top up, check connections and run capacity tests, then give you a written report.
