Generator Maintenance in Jordan

A standby generator that sits idle for months fails in predictable ways: a flat starter battery, old fuel, a sticking transfer switch, or an engine clogged from running on light load. We maintain diesel generators across Jordan on a schedule that catches these before the next outage does.

What a service visit covers

  • Oil and filters, air filter, belts and hoses, coolant level and protection, at the intervals the engine maker sets
  • Starter batteries, the battery charger and the block heater. A flat battery is the most common reason a standby set fails to start
  • Water in the tank, fuel filters, leaks and fuel quality
  • The automatic transfer switch, controller settings, alarms and event log, with a mains-failure test where the site allows it
  • Alternator insulation, terminations and voltage regulator response, and the output voltage and frequency under load
  • A run under real load to bring the engine up to working temperature

Why weekly no-load runs are not enough

Many sites run their generator for 15 minutes a week with no load. The engine never gets hot, unburnt fuel collects in the exhaust and the set slowly loses power. It is called wet stacking, and it is behind many of the generators we find smoking or struggling on the day of an outage.

We set up an exercise routine that suits your site and include a loaded run in the service plan, so the engine reaches working temperature regularly. Stored diesel also absorbs water and grows bacteria that block filters, so we check the fuel on every visit.

Plans and brands

Generators are covered by the same Essential, Standard and Professional plans as UPS systems, with one, two or three preventive visits a year. The Professional plan adds 24/7 emergency response and one free oil and filter change a year. Prices per device are on the Services page.

We service Generac and Pramac sets, Cummins and Caterpillar, units with Perkins, Volvo, MTU, Scania and Baudouin engines, and SDMO, Kohler, Rehlko, Aksa and Emsa, subject to the model and parts availability.

Questions we get asked

How often should a standby generator be serviced?

At least once a year, or every 250 running hours, whichever comes first, unless the engine maker says otherwise. Sites with frequent outages need more visits.

How long can diesel stay in the tank?

Diesel starts to degrade after several months, faster in heat and with water present. We check it on every visit and tell you when it needs polishing or replacing.

Do you service generators you did not supply?

Yes. We service most major makes, subject to the model, documentation and parts availability.

My generator smokes and loses power under load. What is wrong?

Often wet stacking from long periods of light-load running, or blocked fuel or air filters. A service and a loaded run usually sort it out. We diagnose on site first.
